Creating a Hook

Editor's Note: Changes to the original article are in bold. I'm sorry this was a little late, but I have a notoriously bad memory and kept forgetting to remind Ash about it...

Hey. I’m Ash. I’m here to give you a few tips and tricks for creating an interesting hook/intro for your Wattpad stories.

The first technique for creating a great intro is: be mysterious. If you make everything clear in the first chapter, readers won’t have to keep reading to find out the answers to their big questions.

This next trick connects with the previous one: foreshadow. Hint at big, exciting events in the chapters to come so that the readers will be dying to get to those parts.

My final tip is to establish what type of book your story is going to be. Readers will be able to see the genre by clicking on your book, but there are many different subgenres. Let your reader make sure this is the type of sci-fi they want to read, or the type of fantasy they want to read. This is especially important for adventure and action books, as these categories are very vague. Also, establish a writing style that the book will be in.

I hope you've found these tips useful and will utilize them in future stories. Anyway, Qapla’! (Goodbye in Klingon.)
